I live in the DC Metro area and am a native French speaking person. By looking at the panel of foreign languages on the top right of your home page I can again see your generous attempt to improve and help our diverse membership. This morning I have tried (by simple curiosity) to shift to the French translated version of the article on the outsourcing of contract attorney work to India and I have been thinking, at the least for the French version, that this is not a good idea at all. This automated translation is very bad and may cause more harm than good to the reputation of Theposselist.com. As a trained French Legal system Lawyer from Senegal (an American University LLM as well) I am in a position to tell you that as in English the legal jargon is independent from the most Moliere like feather; let alone an automated translation. Bottom line: if I were in a position to make a decision on what goes or does not go on the Posselist.com website, I would remove the translations option IMMEDIATELY. I believe it is better for now to keep everything in English and that as circumstances will warrant, move to a Spanish version and a French version of the website. I am confident there are several members who would be excited to work with you on such globalizing project. After all it is very likely that all Posselist members know the English language and nothing compels the List to edit in or translate into a foreign language even as it aims at reaching readers beyond the listserv, globally. The respectability of The Posselist does not allow room for sloppy work and the person who reads an automated translation in their language may get irritated by the bad quality and quit it not realizing this has been the work of a machine not the work of the honorable editors of the Posselist who have been working hard and generously with a limited staff..
