JD Supra: use it to get published and market yourself

In our Trends series (click here) on the contract attorney market we have tried to present multiple ways to raise your profile by getting published and thereby marketing yourself.   Despite the universal concern over the current economic climate, many Posse List members have repositioned themselves.  And this repositioning has allowed Posse List members to find more creative ways to raise their profiles.

Yes, it’s difficult.  No kidding.   But we are trying to throw out to you options, alternatives, and possibilities.  We are trying to be a positive in a market turned crap by the financial meltdown and its attendant cost cutting, and an ever developing technology that means more accurate and efficient means of conducting searches as well as more tools to monitor and control costs (including performance metrics).

But in spite of all the challenges you will face trying to hit the “exit” button and get out of contract legal work, be comforted by the fact that scores of Posse List members are doing it, and have been successful at doing it.  The best news:  we are working in a part of the legal industry (well, most of us are) that is unusual because it is open to sharing and collaboration, through publications, quality conferences, trade shows, and peer networking organizations such as LegalTech,  ABATech, the ILSL Conference, Solo Practice University, etc., etc.  Our next stop: ILTA 09 (click here).  Oh, and let’s not forget Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn, and (at last count) something like 67 gazillion other social media outlets.

But we digress.

One of the best ways to get published, to get noticed is via JD Supra.  JD Supra lets you create an impressive online portfolio of your articles, newsletters, alerts, court filings, and presentations.   The concept is easy to understand:  by regularly publishing in niche markets, you’re not only grabbing the attention of your target audience, you’re also establishing yourself as an expert. If a LinkedIn profile tells people what you’re good at (by listing your professional credentials), an informative, on-topic article shows it by displaying your expertise as you digest, analyze, and present important developments in your field of practice (first step: get a field of practice.  There are lots of them).

JD Supra is a cool site with lots of incredibly helpful information.  And they make it easy.  We have more info over at The Posse Ranch so click here.

Postscript:  we don’t make a dime plugging these guys.  They are good, they are the best.
